Delivering the keynote address of an outreach program organized under the Gender Advancement for Institutional Transformation (GATI) activities by the Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology (RGCB) here on Friday, Dr Khosa said that making women financially independent was not enough, it was important to ensure that they had enough opportunities to fulfill their true potential.
The RGCB has been selected as one of the leading institutions across the country to promote gender equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) in the GATI framework.
Citing her journey in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) after completing her medical degree, she said the right focus, determination and good mental health can help a woman succeed in her profession.
Divya S. Iyer, District Collector, Pathanamthitta, said that since gender discrimination begins in childhood, families are the fundamental units of gender transformation in our society.
RGCB Director Chandrabhas Narayana said that while women’s participation in the education sector is increasing, their representation in jobs in other key sectors has not yet matched their advancement. school. “I strongly believe that we really need to strengthen the environment for women so that they don’t get any special consideration to compete with their male counterparts,” he said.
The RGCB is among 30 higher education and research institutions selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to implement the innovative program, which aims to remove systematic and cultural barriers to academic advancement and professional women in multiple disciplines.
A debate on “Equal opportunities between the sexes: a myth or a reality” also took place. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the essay writing competitions organized within the framework of the event.
