MAHE launches BA and MA programs at Gandhian Center for Philosophical Arts and Sciences

Achieving full socio-economic freedom will make the Gandhian vision a full reality, said Vinod Bhat, executive vice president of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

He was speaking on Monday after the launch of the new bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the Gandhian Center for Philosophical Arts and Sciences in MAHE.

Dr Bhat argued that it is a significant coincidence that the new programs begin immediately after Independence Day. Academics must also strive for social and economic freedoms and that would be a fulfillment of Gandhi’s vision, he said.

Education would be incomplete without actually learning together and not just virtually, Dr Bhat said and hoped universities would be able to get their students back to campus sooner rather than later.

The director of the center, Varadesh Hiregange, in his introductory remarks, said that the three Ps – Poetics (i.e. aesthetic), Politics (orienting towards peace studies) and Philosophy (transforming into ecosophy ) – capture the essence of the programs offered by the center.

A BA in Aesthetics and Peace Studies, an MA in Ecosophical Aesthetics and an MA in Art and Peace Studies have been relaunched on the occasion.
