MONROVIA — The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) on Thursday announced the citizen’s arrest of Sayma Syrenius Cephas for her alleged involvement in ritual killings in Liberia.
The group’s appeal comes weeks after former Liberia Airports Authority director Ellen Corkrum accused the country’s solicitor general of involvement in the ritual killings of young virgins.
Corkrum accused Cllr. Cephas for taking her to a native doctor on the Liberian-Guinean border, where he encouraged her to sacrifice virgins as requested by the native doctor.
Clr. Cephas, however, dismissed the allegations and called them a ploy by politicians to tarnish his reputation.
But at a press conference in Monrovia, EFFL Commander-in-Chief Emmanuel Gonquoi said he was sad that Cllr Cephas, who represents the legal interests of the state, was accused of killing virgins for ritual purposes in the country. yet Justice Minister Musa Dean is coy about the allegations.
He accused the justice minister of being selective in trying cases, especially when it comes to members of the ruling establishment.
“It is not a problem when it comes to a government official, but if it was not an opposition politician, he was invited to be questioned,” Gonquoi said. .
Gonquoi thinks citizens should unite and stop Cllr. Cephas so that he can answer questions about his alleged involvement in acts of ritual activity in the country.
“We hereby announce the arrest of citizens for Cllr. Cyrinus Cephas. He should now be behind bars pending investigation as the security forces do not have the manpower to arrest him, we will assist them to arrest Cllr. Cephas, he cannot be charged with killing innocent people and girls in Liberia and wandering around without facing an investigation.
“The allegations against Cllr. The ritual murder cephas are serious and require serious investigation, he said.
“When you listen to radio stations or watch social media, there are news of mysterious disappearances of people and secret murders. What is Cllr. Cephas who is accused of ritual murders tells an accused that he was arrested by the state and should be investigated by the same Cephas?
He did, however, express his disappointment in President George Weah for retaining Cllr. Cephas amid allegations of his involvement in ritual activities as the evidence is stark. “Because he is part of the team that plunders the state, he walks the streets without any legal action.”
He criticized women’s groups and religious leaders in the country for not speaking out on the issue.
“It’s incredible that the Justice Department, women’s groups and other civil society groups aren’t at the center of this one,” he said.
“We cannot live in our country where some are considered animals while others including Cllr. Cephas is accused and no one wants to question him, we want to say to the religious community and women’s groups in our society that if you want peace in our country, you must stand up against what is happening in our country, we want Cllr . Cephas investigated,” he noted.
In another development, Gonquoi criticized the government of Liberia for using millions of dollars to pressure the United States while Liberian students are learning in dire conditions and teachers are not being paid.
“You can’t bring millions of dollars to the United States of America to lobby when teachers don’t get paid and students don’t have chairs to sit in, only useless government does that, so please stop spending our money on lobbying,” he said. noted.
He urged the government to stop seeking favors and stay strong and improve the economy. “Only your action as a government can lobby for you, so stop wasting our resources on lobbying.”
