USMEF vice president of economic analysis details impact of war in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine has been going on for three months now and, sadly, it doesn’t look like it will end any time soon. This has impacted just about every global market, including American red meat. US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Vice President of Economic Analysis Erin Borror explained the impact of the war in Ukraine on the availability and production of red meat.


While the drop in feed supply will impact all livestock markets, it will be particularly difficult for European pig production. Borror said he has already seen reductions in African swine fever, and the war has only made this problem worse.

These problems, among many others, will cause a lasting domino effect. Borror said the impacts of the war will likely last well beyond the current growing season.
